6-9 February

Several days of ‘good’ for Max. He has had minor ups and downs, but overall has continued growing well. His O2 is still mostly under 25%, sometimes in air, sometimes up to 30%. He desats occasionally, but mostly picks himself up. He has tried low flow oxygen on nasal prongs – but hasn’t been able to repeat his marathon 6 hour attempt.
For the last 48-72 hours he’s needed a couple of doses of chloral hydrate to get him to settle, which worked like a charm. Yesterday, Megan (nurse) wrapped him, like a wee grub, and he loved it and settled beautifully.
Today I got to give him a wash (in the cot), during which time he had the CPAP off (for most of the time), with some extra cot oxygen. He did very nicely throughout, and was so good to handle. However, he did need to CPAP, and perked up considerable once it was back on.
In the afternoon we went back in, and I did a nappy change and held him for about 30-40 minutes. For a lot of this time he had only some extra O2 flow (held by me) and no other respiratory support at all. He was wide awake and looking around. There were a couple of direct looks (not many, though), and a couple of lovely smiles. He did seem to tire a bit, so he went back on CPAP and then was brilliant – he sat in 21% for a decent amount of time. Well done, my darling!
Weight (morning of 8th) = 1700g.
