24 & 25 February

Two lovely, stable (for Max) days. Weight up to 2310g, and spending 6 hours a day on intra-nasal low flow oxygen. Today (25th) I gave him a bath and had a long cuddle. Absolutely blissful.
Tomorrow is The Day for his bowel surgery. We are both very nervous – somewhat about the surgery itself, but much more about the recovery and potential complications afterwards. But – Max is a little miracle and I refuse to dwell on the possible negatives.
Over the past few days, we’ve had a couple of comments from doctors who haven’t seen Max for a while – his surgeon (who did the original bowel surgery) said “I didn’t really think I’d get to do this surgery (reversing the stoma)” and another consultant (after being away for three weeks) said “it’s a real miracle he’s still here”. While this is, I suppose, meant to be positive, it again makes us realise just how extraordinary this game is, and how tough Max has had to be to make it through the past three months.
Tomorrow we go to the hospital for the surgery, morning thank goodness, and then just sit and wait. And then wait some more. Oh Max.
